Setting the Pace for Community Support—The United Way Pacesetter Campaign
Arlington Properties was founded in 1969 in Birmingham, Ala., as Municipal Development Company, and this year, we celebrate our 50th Anniversary and many milestones—including those as a United Way of Central Alabama Pacesetter company.
Our commitment as a Pacesetter company began when United Way of Central Alabama rolled out its first Pacesetter initiative. As that initiative has grown, so has our commitment to serving the needs of the broader communities where we operate. We strive to work with United Way by being a loyal and supportive corporate citizen, giving back to the cities and locales where our employees further their careers, develop friendships, start and raise families and advance their lives.
We are honored to serve as a member of United Way’s 2019 Pacesetter Campaign, comprised of a select group of companies who have demonstrated dedication to the success of the mission and fundraising efforts for the organization.
Like Arlington, United Way of Central Alabama has a rich history of helping our neighborhoods and communities.
Its legacy began in 1923 with 31 agencies as a cooperative action to address Birmingham’s human services problems. Today, United Way of Central Alabama’s impact has grown to over 80 programs and a fundraising impact of more than $38 million. Throughout its history, the United Way has not changed its basic mission—to increase the organized capacity of people to care for one another and to improve their communities.
This year’s Central Alabama Pacesetter Campaign, has a goal of $13,500,000, making it one of the largest campaigns ever, with 71 companies participating.
“As individuals, we can only accomplish so much. But by working together as a community, we can make great things happen,” said Arlington’s president, Jim Dixon. “That’s what community is all about. Neighbors helping neighbors. This philosophy is part of our core commitment to integrity uncompromised— and it’s how we strive to do business and participate in meaningful ways in each community where we operate.”
“We consider the Pacesetter campaign to be what we call our ‘energy shot’, said Stirling Hutchins, United Way’s relationship manager for Arlington Properties, because, at United Way, we rely on strong partners, like Arlington Properties.”
Our Arlington family knows that when we give, we are helping drive real, measurable change. Giving to the United Way is powerful because our gifts are combined with gifts from hundreds of others to invest in the best work, happening at the strongest organizations who are achieving the greatest results. That’s how change happens.
